“Senator Jack Reed, a West Point graduate, military veteran and Rhode Island Democrat who chairs the Armed Services Committee, is not known as a brash troublemaker.” The New York Times report.

“So when Senate Democrats met privately with the president’s top political advisers last month to assess Mr. Biden’s ability to remain the Democratic nominee, it was notable that the usually reticent Ms. Reade chose to speak first. Even more notable, according to two people in attendance, was what she said: If Mr. Biden wants to remain in the race after a disastrous debate performance that underscored concerns about his condition and mental acuity, he will need to undergo examinations by two independent neurologists who will be willing to report the results at a news conference.”

“It was a shocking stance from a Democratic loyalist, and it underscored the near-unanimous consensus among Senate Democrats that day that Mr. Biden should not continue as the party’s nominee. It was just one of a series of extraordinary moments that unfolded in the closed-door meeting on July 11 that led Sen. Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York and the majority leader, to schedule a face-to-face meeting with the president days later and urge Mr. Biden to step aside.”
