How did Star Trek’s best show subvert its biggest themes?

deep space nine This central theme had to be violated in order to give us the best episode of Trek, and the writers and producers knew full well that Gene Roddenberry would not approve of what they were doing.

After the creator passed away in 1991, Rick Berman placed a bust of the head on his desk and blindfolded the writer whenever he discussed topics the franchise creator would have disliked. Perhaps the bust was kept blindfolded throughout the entire bloody Dominion War arc. But this arc is how the show achieved true greatness.

The focus is not on the war itself. deep space nine Trek’s best show…instead, it’s the show’s consistent willingness to tell us a story very different from anything we’ve encountered before. As good as TNG is, it’s because the bar for expectations was relatively low. The writers and producers just had to give us more. original series I really like it. DS9 was the first spinoff to try some new things, including religious themes running through each season.
