How to design JAPANDI bedrooms and bathrooms

MONews
9 Min Read

When housing renovation for many years, some rooms begin to live with imagination much before they exist in real life. I can’t calculate the time I spent the feeling of life in our new space, and my brain spent the most time is our primary bedroom.

While we have planned and allowed our Malibu Beach House remodeling for the past five years, we have found drifting with a quiet morning fantasy. I woke up with the inspired bedroom and opened the French door from the sunny Japandi, and the sea breeze took the scent of orange flowers and heard the waves crashed on the Zuma beach. It is the first place to come to mind when I think the house is over, and the atmosphere I envision is minimal, calm and deeply connected to nature.

For the installment of today’s renovation diary, I am pleased to share the design function to anchoring the architecture rendering and space of the primary bedroom and bathroom.

Intier bed on the ground

One of the biggest questions whenever you share a picture of Austin’s house is about beds. Designing and cooperating with the team for custom builds was one of the best decisions we made, so I knew I wanted to design and compose special things in Malibu bedrooms.

Custom beds are completely integrated into the architecture of the space. The design, made of natural wood, contains low platforms that extend beyond the mattress and doubles night stand shelves on both sides. Keep the visual landscape clean and calm, and no furniture is required. This decision is rooted in the intentional simplicity of Japandi philosophy.

Warm light with hanging pendants

We select the pendant lights hanging on both sides of the bed instead of using a traditional bed lamp. This simple switch immediately makes the space more modern and rising. The pendant has a surface space on the stand, adds sculpture attention, and is perfectly warm and downward in the evening reading. We are currently sourcing the options with fabrics to reflect the natural elements of the entire room.

Salty pendant I love you:

Sea view through the French door

One of the most excited elements is the French door that is directly opened in the courtyard towards the sea. The door is made of natural wood and is designed to blur the line between the room and the out. To the left, the courtyard leads to an outdoor sauna, and the suite feels like a well -being retreat in the house. When the door opens, the fragrance and waves of the sea drift throughout the space.

A palette inspired by arched ceiling and nature

One of the biggest changes in our home is to keep as many ceilings as possible. We leaned on the wide by maintaining material palettes such as light tone forests, warm neutral fibers and soft stone finishes to nature. target? It creates a bedroom inspired by Japandi, which feels like a true place to relax and exhale.

A fireplace rooted in Scandinavian design

In this area of Malibu, open flame fireplaces are not allowed, so we Vita vapor fireplace of customized fireplace and design. It provides a cozy atmosphere of a real fire without safety issues and is approved. This particular model creates a beautiful and blinking steam that imitates flames and adds a truly focus at the end of the bed. In a cool evening, I imagine being dried under the linen throwing, and I imagine that the steam fireplace crosses the room and shines softly.

A lightly filled bathroom with a standalone bathtub

Let’s go to the inspired bathroom from Japandi, designed as the most calm and brightest place at home. The first work I chose in our guest room Duravit Soleil by STARCK FREESTANDING. It is sculpted and simple with clean lines that reflect the calm of the bedroom. Next to it, we are installing a window from the floor to the ceiling that brings colorful natural light.

To maintain privacy, we are making stone walls outside the window. We are using Country debris from Eldorado Stone’s Bella.

Soft and texture: Roman clay wall

Choosing the right wall was an important decision because it was planned to lock the shade of plaster and use it all households. If you live with sample samples for several weeks, you have narrowed it with several options. Portola Paints’ Roman Clay collection.

At first, I wanted to test the soft terracota on the wall of the basic bathroom and add warmth and soil. But when we saw 3D rendering with clean white Roman clay, it was clear how white reflected light and made the space more widely. It felt like a retreat like a spa we imagined. The texture adds depth and softness to the walls, so it has a handwritten and no organic feeling throughout the room.

The comparison is as follows. What do you prefer?

Cool brass plants that do not age beautifully

We are using groundbreaking brass fixtures Kallista’s One Collection Throughout the bathroom, I like how to rust over time. The warm shades of the brass add richness and depth, and they are incomplete with subtle nods to the beauty of WABI-Saabi. As the supplies are old and developed their personality, they will add rich stories to the house.

Space -saving arch road

Because the bathroom is not large, we remove the small door of the above and instead open the entrance to the arched wardrobe to open the arched opening to create a flow. This small design adjustment makes the entire suite feel more extensively. Archi adds soft architectural details to beautifully connect with the curve forms in natural ingredients and other places in the house.

Simplified and hard -working wardrobe

To feel the bathroom calm and confused, I will put my vanity table in my closet. I am working together California WardrobeS It still designs a small but efficient space that still feels calm and completes the work. From the full -out organizer to the soft -close drawer and the integrated lighting, we deliberately design all details to simplify their daily lives and keep them beautifully in the process. We will share more about the design process of this space soon!

Tadelakt and Caesarstone: Dream Shower Combo

For shower, we are leaning on using Tadelakt, a colorful and functional traditional waterproof plaster. It feels like a stone, but has a soft and slightly mottled surface that is sealed and waterproof. In the case of a shower floor, we are considering using one of them. Sisa Stone Anti -slip surface. The stone is so Gorgeous and we use it at various points through the house, so we are simplified and cohesive with the minimalist palette.

Yes, I’m excited about the bathroom

Don’t know that it’s possible to get excited about the bathroom. We chose what was mounted on the wall Duravit’s Starck Wall Mounted toiletAnd it is very functional and beautifully designed. Smooth, minimized, comfortable. It is a small luxury that improves everyday life in the best way.
