How to remove eyelash extensions

I wanted to share with you how to remove eyelash extensions and the best way to do it yourself at home. I love my eyelash extensions and plan on getting them again, but when I had my second son, I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep up with my monthly refill appointments while I was on maternity leave. It wasn’t worth it until my son was a little older and my life was more organized. So at my last appointment, I talked to my stylist about the best way to remove my eyelash extensions at home so I could leave them in for as long as possible. However, when they started to fall out, I was able to safely remove them until I could go get extensions again.

I also have had eyelash extensions for many years and it may be a good idea to take them off for a while to give my natural lashes a rest and to grow back without the extensions. This is also a good time to use an eyelash growth serum if you wish. I will discuss this in more detail later in this article.

You will also need water and a clean towel. Personally, I like to use a black towel. Like these things For all things makeup related, all my other towels and hand towels are white (I like white because you can bleach it). But makeup really stains, so a black washcloth is great for washing your face.

How to remove eyelash extensions

Start by washing your eyelids well. Wash gently and do not rub your lashes. However, if you want to keep your eyelash extensions, the goal is usually to wash your eyelids and the area around your eyes very carefully so that the extensions do not get wet. This is the opposite. You need to wash your eyelids and the area around your eyes so well that the lashes start to fall off with just water and eyelash shampoo.

After washing thoroughly, gently run the remaining water through the spoolie to wet the base. You will feel a lot of eyelashes fall out during this process. You do not need to pull or tug on the eyelashes. Just comb them with the spoolie. And if your face is still wet, pat them dry.

Next, use an applicator brush (or cotton swab) to apply adhesive remover to the base of the extensions. Then, use the spoolie to comb them out. Repeat this process as many times as necessary until all of the extensions have been removed.

If you feel that the adhesive remover has gotten into your eyes, wash them again with eyelash shampoo.

Things not to do

  • Don’t pull on your eyelash extensions, as this will most likely pull out your natural lashes as well. It may be tempting to pull at the end when you only have a few stubborn extensions left, but resist!
  • Do not pull on your eyelashes. Use the spoolie only to remove the extensions. When you comb your hair, you should comb your eyelashes as well, just as you comb your hair occasionally.
  • Don’t rub or scrub your eyelashes hard, even with a washcloth. The key word here is gentle!
  • Do not use soap or other products that irritate the eyes. The adhesive remover can be a bit irritating, so be careful not to get it in your eyes, and if you do accidentally get it in, rinse it out. It is not dangerous, but it will hurt.

Natural eyelash care

  • If you have had eyelash extensions for a long time, give your natural lashes time to breathe and grow without other products like heavy mascara. It may be hard to get used to the look of extensions, but just like giving your nails a break from acrylics, this can be very healthy for your nails.
  • While you have natural lashes, it may be a good time to use a growth serum. You can make your own natural rosemary hair growth spray and apply it to your lashes in the evening after washing your face using a spoolie. Another option is a commercial lash serum like Grande Lash-MD. commonLatis, Babe Lash or Revitalash.

I love my eyelash extensions and plan to do them again, but it would be nice to know how to remove them at home when I need to or when I want to take a break. Thanks for sharing! If you have had success removing your extensions and have any other tips to share, please leave a comment below.
