Episode 1: “Out of the Shadows”
After years of competing in the shadow of her older sister Venus Williams, 17-year-old Serena Williams began her tennis career on the public courts of Compton, California, winning her first Grand Slam at the 1999 U.S. Open.
Episode 2: “Into the Light” (July 17)
While Serena struggles after her first Grand Slam, Venus wins four major titles in two years. Serena eventually finds her rhythm, but that means going head-to-head with her sister, the world’s best player, and only one can emerge victorious.
Episode 3: “Point of No Return” (July 24)
Serena Williams struggles with grief and depression after the death of her sister Yetunde Price, causing her to drop out of the top 100. Williams goes into the 2007 Australian Open to battle the emotions and fierce competition.
Episode 4: “The Deep End” (July 31)
The isolation of tennis begins to take its toll on Williams, and she must improve her game with the help of a new team. After regaining the No. 1 ranking, Team Serena must rally around her after a life-threatening health issue and prepare for the 2011 US Open.
Episode 5: “The Perfect Storm” (August 7th)
After losing in the first round of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career, Williams hires a new coach, Patrik Mouratoglou. As she approaches her 30s and sets her sights on a calendar Grand Slam, Williams looks back on the similar path taken by her friend Roger Federer.
Episode 6: “Exodus” (August 14th)
In 2015, Williams returned to Southern California for the Indian Wells tournament, a tournament that brought back painful memories for her and her family. Williams, her sister, and Mary Jo Fernandez share firsthand accounts of the event, which led Williams to boycott Indian Wells for 14 years.
Episode 7: “I Love Everyone” (August 21)
Love was in the air when Williams met Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian during the Italian Open. Soon after they got engaged, Williams entered the 2017 Australian Open in hopes of winning her 23rd Grand Slam title, and along the way, she was carrying a secret.
Episode 8: “This is you” (August 28)
Williams is coming to the end of her career as she embarks on a new chapter in her life. After giving birth to her daughter Olympia, Williams returns to the court before announcing her retirement from tennis ahead of the 2022 US Open.
