Washington says the military reorganization is aimed at countering growing threats from China, North Korea and Russia.
The United States said it would reshuffle its military command over Japan as both countries face their biggest strategic challenge yet from China.
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin called the move the biggest change in the military alliance’s 70-year history.
Washington and Tokyo say they are increasingly concerned about what they call an “evolving security environment.”
They accuse China of engaging in coercive actions to change the status quo in the East China Sea, the South China Sea, around Taiwan and throughout the region.
The reshuffle comes as China expands its nuclear arsenal and Russia strengthens military ties with North Korea.
How will this agreement change the security relationship between the United States and Japan?
So how will China respond?
