Wimbledon—Tears welled up in my eyes. Donna Vecchi’s She felt a sharp pain in her right arm and leg.

A brave Beckic broke in the final set and later saved two match points to force a final tiebreaker.

In the breaker, Vekic led 8-7, with Paolini winning the last three points in the longest match in Wimbledon women’s singles semifinal history at two hours and 51 minutes.

“It was a tough, tough match,” Beckic said after the match. “I believed I could win until the end. She played amazing tennis. Congratulations to her. She definitely deserved it.”

Naturally, Beckic was in tears on the court and during the post-game press conference, and he looked very distressed.

Becky later said she felt excruciating pain in her arms and legs, bringing her to tears.

“I thought I was going to die in the third set,” Beckic said. “I was in so much pain in my arms and legs. It wasn’t easy there, but I’ll recover.

“I cried more because it was so painful. I didn’t know if I could continue playing.”

Beckic hit 16 more winners (42 to 36), won twice as many break points (14 to 7), won seven more points in the match (118 to 111), averaged 13 miles per hour faster on her first serve, and hit back-to-back winners to take an 8-7 lead in the break, two points away from the biggest win of her life.

Paolini, seeded seventh, wouldn’t let her get any closer and she made history by becoming the first Italian woman to reach the Wimbledon singles final.

The physical and emotional toll of the painful defeat, which included four consecutive three-set matches in just six tournaments, left a dispirited Beckic devastated.

Visid Bekic, who thought her career might be over due to injury, should be proud of how hard she fought throughout this tournament.

For now, the pain of this loss will burn.

“My team tells me I can be proud of myself,” Vekic said in a post-match press conference, choking back tears. “It’s hard right now. It’s really hard. It’ll take a few days to see everything.

“Yeah, I don’t know. It’s hard to be positive right now. It was so close. There were so many opportunities.”
