I finally understand the hype around the Playdate game Root Bear.

is one of those games that always comes up for new Playdate owners looking for a place to start. After months of coming across this title online and vaguely wondering why a game where you just pour root beer for a bear would be so great, I finally gave it a try this weekend. And, yes, I totally get it. root bear It’s ridiculously funny — with an emphasis on the ridiculous.

root bear A $3 catalog game where your goal is to achieve perfect purring from a root beer tap while demanding customers (all bears, of course) evaluate your work. You can also get: Okay. Io. The game requires precise use of the crank to get the root beer flowing at the right speed, and cutting at the right time so that it is neither too high nor too low for the desired fill line. There are also bubbles to consider, and if you are not careful, the way the bubbles settle can really mess things up. The closer you get to a perfect pour, the more money you earn.

It’s exactly the kind of design that sparks a competitive spirit in people. But the best part is that root bear It’s the bears themselves. Or rather, their reactions. The first time I messed up a customer’s order like a king, the bear Something I wasn’t prepared for at all – and with the right expression on my face – and I was completely stunned. So, yeah, root bear It’s a really good and really stupid time.
