The Los Angeles Rams made a big move in 2021 by trading for quarterback Matthew Stafford.

At the time, Stafford had been a lifelong member of the Detroit Lions, but he made it clear he was ready to move on to a new role.

The move helped both teams, with the Rams winning the Super Bowl in his first year with the team, and the Lions starting to come into their own with Jared Goff at center.

It’s been a few years since the Rams have been able to pull out all the stops to win a big game, so they’re looking to regroup and become a legitimate contender.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero recently reported on Stafford’s revised contract with the Rams, which both sides hope will help open up the possibility of other players.

According to Pelissero, the deal includes a $12.5 million signing bonus, $23.5 million in guaranteed salary in 2024 and a $4 million guaranteed bonus if he makes the roster in March of next year.

As Pelissero said, it’s actually a one-year deal worth $40 million. After that, Stafford and the Rams can look at his contract and see what his future holds in the organization.

If they are successful in 2024, the team could potentially bring him back in 2025, possibly on a new two- or three-year deal.

If things go south for any reason, they could completely reevaluate Stafford and bring in a new, younger quarterback to take center stage.
