In addition to spoilers, beware of graphic depictions of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Every abuser has a sad story, some real, some made up. In Ryle’s case, he accidentally shot and killed his brother as a child. Now as an adult, he explodes in intense anger. He goes into abusive fits and unleashes explosive violence on his wife.

A particularly horrifying moment is when Ryle invades Lily’s privacy by going through her diaries. This is very common behavior among abusive partners (and abusive parents, exes, etc.). In this case, her childhood diaries mention her platonic friend Atlas Corrigan, and he becomes convinced that she is having an affair.

Lyle’s abuse escalates. He sexually assaults her, and when she tries to stop him, he hits her head with enough force to render her unconscious.

‘It Ends With Us’ depicts an all-too-realistic nightmare.

Lily escapes from Lyle and calls Atlas to rescue her. Atlas takes Lily to the hospital, where Lily learns that she is pregnant with her abuser’s child.

Of course, Lily doesn’t want to be raised in an abusive home. That’s how she was raised.

But she ultimately decides to stay with Lyle for the last few months of her pregnancy. She confides in Atlas about Lyle’s abuse. He already suspects it. And after giving birth to her daughter, she files for divorce from the monster so that her daughter will not grow up in the same house. Later, as she and Lyle co-parent, she and Atlas express their desire to have a relationship as adults.

Why is ‘It Ends With Us’ so controversial?

Talking about domestic violence is controversial. No two people’s experiences are the same. Some survivors will have it worse (always, always). Others may think that the abuser is too sympathetic or less sympathetic than the abuser they experienced.

Many readers don’t understand why Lily allowed Lyle to stay in her life for so long. Critics say that he would have ended the relationship immediately after he pushed her away, or at least pushed her down the stairs.

There is also controversy over Lily’s decision to allow Lyle to co-parent her daughter. Clearly, an abuser is an abuser, even if he doesn’t take out his violent anger on Amy (a big If), she will definitely witness it when he dates again.

Why did the author make this choice?

Unfortunately, in books and movies It ends with us‘ The ending is painfully realistic for millions of domestic violence survivors.

Abusers often target those who have experienced abuse in the past. It is realistic, and it is what Ryle does in the book and the movie. Lily resented her parents for being in an abusive marriage, but it clearly paved the way for Ryle to convince her that her treatment was somehow normal or okay.

Colin Hoover, whose writing was inspired by his abusive father It ends with usI get it. Abusers are manipulative people, and survivors can still make bizarre choices. It’s always good to remember that fictional stories are not a guide to how real people should behave. This is not a morality play.

Is there a movie drama called ‘It Ends With Us’?

It seems like there’s an important behind-the-scenes story. It ends with us. One of the lead actors (Justin Baldoni) is also the director, but he doesn’t seem to be on the same page as most of the cast. Or… the fans. twitter And Instagram is over-rating it.

No matter what’s going on, people are comparing this press tour to: Don’t worry, honey. debacle.

Can’t we all enjoy a Blake Lively movie? Well, given the subject matter, “enjoy” might not be the right word. But early reviews say the solid performances are one of the film’s success factors.
