Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks have agreed to a four-year, $156.5 million contract extension. Brunson has a player option for the fourth year. Brunson could have signed for five years and $269.1 million in 2025, a $113 million difference in guaranteed value and $53.8 million per year compared to the $39.1 million average.
Brunson signed with the Knicks as a free agent in 2022 and was an All-NBA selection in 2024. Brunson is eligible for free agency in 2028 and can sign a four-year, $323 million extension or a five-year, $418 million contract that would be capped at 35 percent if he becomes a free agent. In the meantime, the Knicks would have a lot more salary cap flexibility to keep a roster centered around Brunson, and he establishes a lesser precedent that could impact future extension talks with other players, most notably Mikal Bridges.
Brunson is repped by Aaron Mintz and Sam Rose.
“Jalen’s decision to sign an extension to remain with the Knicks long-term demonstrates his dedication and passion for the organization, our fans and this city,” said New York Knicks President Leon Rose. “Jalen has often called the Knicks his family, and we are proud that he will continue to represent us in orange and blue for many years to come. Since coming to New York, Jalen has embraced every challenge and has been committed from day one to the vision and plan we have laid out for the future of this team. Since Jalen joined us two years ago, he has consistently led by example and has shown great commitment to this organization and his team.
My teammates and everyone in the Knicks family.”
