Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) will become the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee because the current ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), withdrew from the race to retain his position.

“Jerry Nadler is an outstanding lawyer, patriot and public servant,” said Rep. Raskin. His tenacious defense of civil rights and freedom is a great inspiration to our people. “I am honored and humbled to have his support in the battle ahead.”
The Democratic ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee is expected to be at the forefront of Trump’s defense.. Raskin will have nothing to do with the confirmation process for Trump’s nominees because his advice-and-consent role is limited to the Senate, but he will be the top investigator for the Trump Justice Department and all agencies under its authority.
Raskin is the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee and has led the pushback against Chairman James Comer’s investigation into President Biden.. Raskin tied Comer in knots and made the Kentucky Republican look incompetent.
This is a big promotion for Rep. Raskin, who represents both leadership of the backlash against Trump, as legislative Democrats shift from leadership by the nearly 80-year-old Nadler to Raskin, who is in his 60s.
Raskin is also a constitutional expert and would be perfectly positioned to lead the House Democratic pushback against Trump.
