Jared McCain is the latest Philadelphia star to suffer an injury during the preseason this week after Joel Embiid and Paul George revealed they were struggling of their own.
Jared McCain suffers injury
As the 2023-24 NBA tip-off gets closer and closer, the Philadelphia 76ers are struggling to maintain fitness across their roster with another injury added to their growing list this week.
Jared McCain, one of Philadelphia’s brightest prospects, was the latest star to suffer an injury during the preseason after taking a hard fall and hitting his back against the Brooklyn Nets.

The rookie was selected 16th overall in this year’s draft, and there’s a lot of interest in the former Duke star, who has played in every 76ers preseason game so far.
Immediately after the game, concerns were raised that McCain’s injury could be serious. McCain, a rookie, limped off the court after the game and headed to the hospital for further evaluation.
NBA insider Chris Haynes reported on Thursday: “Philadelphia first-round pick Jared McCain suffered a lung contusion in last night’s fall game against Brooklyn. He has been discharged from the hospital and is resting at home. The concussion will be reassessed today, but there is optimism that the rookie has avoided a serious injury.”
Despite initial concerns, the 20-year-old should be ready for next Wednesday’s season opener against the Bucks, which would come as a relief to Philadelphia, which is already at risk of being short-handed.
McCain wasn’t the only player injured in preseason games this week. That’s because Paul George hyperextended his knee against the Hawks due to his new trade acquisition from Los Angeles.

Joel Embiid was also sidelined for the rest of the preseason with a knee injury, and the former MVP admitted he may never play consecutive games again in his career.
Despite a difficult week for all three stars in Philadelphia, early reports indicate that at least Embiid and McCain will be available for the first game of the season against Milwaukee, while George’s status remains unclear.
