Joint practices for NFL teams are a good idea in theory, but not in reality.
It was intended to give each team a chance to compare themselves against other competitors and strengthen their preparations before the season began.
In fact, most players take it way too seriously, often turning it into an ‘us vs. them’ fight that results in multiple brawls and fights.
With that in mind, New England Patriots head coach Jerrod Mayo took a very creative approach to the situation (Patriots coverage via CLNS Media).
Jerod Mayo said if you’re fighting and a starter, you’ll play the entire preseason, and if you’re not, you won’t play at all.#patriots #NFL #New England Patriots

In an interview with the press, he revealed his plans for the players to fight during joint training.
He claimed that he developed a confident punishment system because in real games, players don’t actually fight because they would be fined or suspended.
So first of all, he’s going to put these players on the field throughout the preseason games.
And if a non-starter gets involved in a fight, he or she will likely get no playing time at all.
Honestly, it seems like the perfect solution.
Starters don’t want to keep playing in the preseason. They want to avoid injuries to their bodies and stay agile for the really important moments.
On the other hand, those who have failed want to step up and prove that they can contribute.
It’s not yet known whether this will work, but it seems like a good idea.
