Tarik Cohen, who attempted a comeback with the Jets this summer, has informed the team of his retirement.
Cohen, 29, was an All-Pro returner for the Bears in 2018, but injuries have derailed his career.
His last NFL regular season game came in 2020, when he broke his leg and tore two knee ligaments.
He missed the rest of the 2020 season and all of 2021 before attempting to return in 2022 with a torn Achilles tendon. He spent last year on the Panthers’ practice squad.
One of the reasons the Jets signed Cohen this spring was because of the new kickoff rule. The team thought Cohen could be one of their returners. He looked good during the spring and the first week of camp.
On Tuesday, he talked about how good he felt and the process of getting back into shape to play again.
“I definitely feel like I’ve come full circle,” Cohen said. “I want to show the Jets that I have the explosiveness, the smarts I’ve gained while I’ve been in the league, and just lift them up as I go up. Help all the guys in my position group.”
After two days he seemed to have changed his mind.
