Manchester United defensive duo Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire appear to be preparing for life after their respective playing careers and are earning their coaching badges.

daily mail “Jonny Evans may have been man of the match against Aston Villa at the age of 36, but he is looking to his future and following United’s strong tradition of players receiving their coaching badges at Carrington while at the club.”

“Evans, along with Harry Maguire, is currently enrolled to gain the UEFA B qualification required to pursue a career in coaching and management.”

The paper notes that legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson encouraged his players to take coaching courses while in the Old Trafford dugout.

The Scot urged his United stars to do so in the afternoon as a productive way to spend their free time.

This information about Evans comes as it looks increasingly likely that his role at United will be further strengthened in the upcoming games.

The Red Devils are currently dealing with an injury crisis in their defensive department, with up to five senior players set to be unavailable for Saturday’s meeting with Brentford.

According to a report covered by The Peoples Person, Ten Hag have relayed that the experienced Evans could be deployed as a makeshift left-back against the Bees.

Maguire, on the other hand, suffered an injury in the club’s match against Aston Villa just before the international break. He started alongside Evans but withdrew after the break.

The England international later confirmed on social media that he would be sidelined for several weeks while he recovers.

Maguire and Evans’ respective contracts expire in the summer of 2025. There are expectations United will trigger a one-year extension on Maguire’s terms, but Evans has no such clause and they will need it if the club want him to stay. Offer him a new contract.

The United v Brentford match kicks off at 15:00 BST on Saturday.
