Judge Chutkan Gives Trump a Nightmare

MONews
2 Min Read

Judge Chutkan has issued an order rescheduling the federal 1/6 trial against Trump, a case that will likely be a hot topic until after the election.

According to Andrew Weissmann, Trump did not receive any special treatment because he was the Republican presidential nominee.Judge Chutkan treats Trump like any other defendant and orders simultaneous briefings on three issues: immunity, legal basis (meaning a new S Ct Fischer ruling on the obstruction clause), and appointment of a special counsel. All must be done in a short period of time, without regard to politics or the political calendar.”

Judge Chutkan said at a hearing earlier that day: She said the election wouldn’t affect her decision, and it didn’t. Chutkan said she wouldn’t change the hearing date because the defendant is running for the White House.

The conservative Supreme Court majority has presented Trump with a headache. If the court had ruled quickly, the trial would likely not have interfered with the campaign. Instead, Trump’s lawyers would have been in court, and voters would have been informed of Trump’s legal troubles and his alleged role in the insurrection over the next two months.

Trump’s legal troubles have put the former president back in the news at a terrible time.
