New Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields is well-positioned to turn a new leaf and leave behind a rocky tenure with the Chicago Bears to serve as a mentor to young QBs alongside Mike Tomlin and Russell Wilson.
Another thing that will help him feel comfortable is his relationship with one of the new wide receivers, which obviously goes back much further than fans originally realized.
USA Today’s Jarrett Bailey shared a clip of Fields talking to the media during OTAs, with Fields talking about his relationship with WR George Pickens, saying, “I knew George before you guys knew George,” adding that he’s known him since high school. And he praised him, calling him a “freak athlete.”

Fields said Pickens is the same player he knew in high school. He said that if you throw it at him, he will most likely come down too.
It’s nice to see Fields looking happy and comfortable in his new digs. His tenure with the Bears was tumultuous and he wasn’t always in a great position to succeed with poor offensive line play, inconsistent wide receiver play and poor coaching.
Fields will now have the opportunity to sit behind Wilson and learn for at least another year, and when he gets a chance to step on the field, he will have his favorite target from his youth to rely on.
It’s a brand new quarterback room in Pittsburgh, and so far, so good.
