Kamala Harris erased Trump’s lead on economy and leadership

President Trump’s two most important issues, the economy and perceptions of strong leadership, are tied with Kamala Harris’s in a new poll.

Puck reported on a new poll with Echelon Insights:

A new survey from Echelon Insights, which partnered with Puck to conduct an exclusive poll of 2024 voters, finds that the message of lenient hard-line is working. Harris is on par with Trump in the voter poll, conducted Friday through Sunday, one of the few surveys conducted entirely after the DNC.

Previously, we considered a number of attributes that favored Republican candidates.

When asked who would be a “strong leader,” Trump leads Harris by just one point (48% to 47%). Who would be better at “keeping the country safe”? Again, Trump leads by one point (47-46). Who would be better at “crisis management”? The two candidates are tied (46-46). Harris also trails Trump by just one point (48-47) when asked who would “make the economy work better” (48-47). On nearly every question about strength or toughness, and one where Republicans typically lead, Harris essentially erases Joe Biden’s deficit against Trump.

Trump has been trying to sell himself as a strong leader for years. Before Harris entered the race, Trump was leading Biden. On the economy. If voters no longer see Trump as a strong leader or as strong on the economy, why would anyone outside the Republican Party vote for him?

This is just one poll, but it shows the Democrats leading. The convention was held successfully. Voters see Harris as Trump’s equal in many areas, areas where Republicans had hoped the former president would have an advantage.

Outside the country, it’s hard to see where Trump has an advantage on this issue. If other polls confirm this, the Trump campaign is likely to focus on personal attacks on Harris, which won’t be effective.

Kamala Harris A lead on the economy would give Democrats a better chance of winning in November.
