Hometown hero Thanasi Kokkinakis has become the first player to sign for Adelaide International in 2025.

The 28-year-old came fresh off his record-breaking Grand Slam win at the US Open, where he knocked out world number 11 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round.

“The Adelaide International is a world-class event and we are delighted to be hosting another international tennis tournament at The Drive,” said Tournament Director Alisha Mollick.

“We are delighted to confirm Thanasi Kokknakis as our first player for 2025. Thanasi is a huge fan favourite in South Australia and will enjoy playing in our home tournaments during the Australian summer.”

Tickets for South Australia’s premier international tennis tournament, to be held at The Drive from 6-11 January 2025, go on sale today.

“The Adelaide International provides every young South Australian with the opportunity to see world-class tennis heroes at home and be inspired to pick up a racquet and play tennis,” Mollick said.

“Tickets are on sale today and start at $10, with kids free for some sessions.”

Tourism Minister Joe Battisson says South Australia’s busy 2025 events calendar will be back with one of the city’s most popular events.

“The Adelaide International is a true showcase for tennis fans and event goers of not only great tennis, but why South Australia is known for hosting world-class events,” Bettison said.

“The line-up of star tennis players has got off to a great start with the confirmation of domestic favourite Thanasi Kokkinakis, and we believe he will be a huge hit with the strong Australian fan base.

“We continue to hear from players and fans alike that The Drive creates a special atmosphere and experience, and we look forward to seeing thousands of fans flock to the city again for tennis in January.”

Czech Republic’s Jiri Reheckka and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko have been crowned the 2024 men’s and women’s singles champions.

Kokkinakis won his first ATP Tour singles title with a memorable win at the 2022 Adelaide International.
