“Honestly, I think the hardest moments are where I learned the most. [from]“He explained. “So what people are saying is kind of true. But those hard times, the fight with Max, things like that, certain other incidents throughout the season…

“We have definitely improved to a good level this season. I’ve definitely missed a few, I’ve probably had three starts this year and occasionally lost a spot or two. But they were often just one location for Max, or one location for Budapest and Oscar. [Piastri] And little things like that.

“But none of them made me look back and feel like, ‘Well, that’s not what I want.’ That moment only came when I came face to face with Max. And that’s Max. Matching Max in any state is always going to be tricky and no one has a good time racing Max.

“I think it was a bit of a turning point for Mexico to prove that not everything it does is perfect. I think if we all went back to Austin and turned 12, most of us would – [or] Almost everyone on the grid – both as a driver and externally – disagreed with the fact that I had been penalized. Neither of us should have had one, or we both should have had one.
