LaVar Arrington is a name some NFL fans may have forgotten, but he was a star linebacker back in the day.

He played seven seasons, six of them with the Washington Redskins, making three consecutive Pro Bowl selections and setting a league record with six forced fumbles in 2003.

His son decided to attend Penn State University, where he had attended 20 years earlier.

In the late 1990s, Arrington was a big star for Joe Paterno’s Nittany Lions, winning several individual awards, including the Butkus Award.

He was drafted second overall in the 2000 NFL Draft by a Redskins team that had lost its way after winning three Super Bowl championships in the 1980s and early 1990s, but he helped the team become at least competitive.

They finally made the playoffs in 2005 after finishing the season with a 10-6 record, where they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round before losing to the eventual NFC champion Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round.

Arrington’s playing career was tragically ended in the 2006 season when he ruptured his Achilles tendon, and he was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in June 2007.

He has been a broadcaster for several years since retiring from the NFL, most recently appearing on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak For Yourself.”

Now it’s time for his son to continue his legacy, not only at Penn State, but if he proves to be a good player, then in the NFL.
