Lewis Hamilton believes a Mercedes podium isn’t ‘far away’ as he confirms Canadian upgrade plans.

Lewis Hamilton has expressed optimism about Mercedes’ chances at this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix, where he will also take on the new front wing debuted by team-mate George Russell last time out in Monaco.

Mercedes has not yet reached the podium in 2024. Red Bull has remained top of the table for the first third of the season, with Ferrari and McLaren emerging as the closest challengers.

But as the campaign progresses to Montreal, the site of Hamilton’s first F1 win some 17 years ago, the seven-time world champion has shared hopes that the Silver Arrows will move closer to the front.

“The car continues to improve,” he said, emphasizing a smoother ride and cornering stability as the biggest improvements so far. “I think everyone has definitely taken a step closer to the Red Bulls. I think this is a really positive thing.

“But I’m really proud of everyone at the factory. How hard everyone works, how resilient everyone is, everyone is so focused, they keep their heads down, the morale of the team is really good.
