Now, as fans grapple with this unexpected loss, Payne’s younger brother has released a touching message in honor of his younger brother.

“Liam is my best friend,” Ruth Gibbons said on Instagram on October 19. No one could make me laugh as much as he did. If you look at his frown he always has wrinkles and he loved to see how much he can smile. ”

Ruth then looked back at the early days of Payne’s career. It was in 2010 when he became a member of One Direction as a contestant on The X Factor.

“He moved out at the age of 17 to chase his dream, which is why I was finally able to pass my driving test on the X Factor live show,” she continued.

“I couldn’t bear the thought of not being able to reach him. I would regularly drive to have tea with him after work and just sit there.”

Many loved ones expressed shock and sadness at Payne’s death, including his former One Direction co-stars and his girlfriend Katie Cassidy.

But it’s hard not to be particularly moved by the reaction of Liam’s family.

“Liam loved 1D, he loved his brothers and we talked about it so much. He would go on to play songs that had been recorded but never used, and we would sit down and do mini 1D concerts,” Ruth continued.

She continued to gush about her late brother’s kind and generous spirit.
