Liverpool confirm big-money move for Sepp van den Berg to Brentford – Liverpool FC

Sepp van den Berg has officially left Liverpool after completing a move to Brentford following five years on Merseyside.

The Dutch defender has been an active player in pre-season but is set to move elsewhere after joining Brentford for an initial fee of £20m plus £5m in add-ons.

Bayer Leverkusen were vying to bring van den Berg into their dressing room after agreeing a deal with Liverpool.

However, van den Berg has decided to stay in England and could be given plenty of game time at Brentford under manager Thomas Frank, who is known for giving young players plenty of chances in the first team.

In fact, it is unlikely that Van den Berg would have moved if he had not been guaranteed a good performance in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old completed a successful medical on Wednesday and signed a five-year contract with Brentford. He is expected to receive a “significant pay rise” on his current wage of just under £10,000-a-week.

The centre-back, who has made four appearances for the club, joined the Reds in a £4.4m deal in 2019. The move could see Liverpool make close to £20m in profit.

It is worth noting that van den Berg is not the only Liverpool prospect to join Brentford this summer.

The Dutchman now joins Fabio Carvalho in West London, with the former Red making his debut off the bench in Brentford’s 2-1 home win over Crystal Palace.

Carvalho moved south earlier this summer for an initial fee of £22.5m plus £5m in add-ons, with both deals including a 17.5% sell-on clause should Brentford sell him for a profit in the future.

Van den Berg is expected to feature against Liverpool on Sunday.
