Trying to retrieve lost luggage at the airport can be a frustrating experience. One thing that may help is putting an Apple AirTag inside your bag. You can now also share your location so airline staff can participate in searches.

A new feature in the recently released iOS/iPadOS 18.2 and MacOS Sequoia 15.2 is an option in the Find My app that creates a shareable link to the location of your lost AirTag. Anyone who receives the link will be able to track its location and find lost luggage or other items.

You can share the link with trusted family, friends, and travel companions. However, sharing it with airline staff can be more productive as they can retrieve your luggage in places that are inaccessible to you and the general public.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of marketing, said that starting this week, United, Delta and Air Canada will support the new feature to track lost or delayed baggage. Monday Post by X. Joswiak also promised that support from more airlines would be available soon.

Apple, which first unveiled the new feature last month, said it would partner with more than 15 airlines to offer the new Find My option. These include Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, SWISS, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines. This is included. , Virgin Atlantic, Vueling, etc. More content will be added over time.

Because privacy is always an issue when tracking items, Apple has built certain safeguards into this technology.

Sharing your location will automatically stop when you find the item, but you can manually turn off sharing whenever you want. Otherwise, your share will automatically expire after 7 days. Only a small number of people can see the location link. To view the link, people will need to authenticate themselves through their Apple Account or partner email address.
