Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has not given up hope of playing for Slovenia in the upcoming Olympic qualifying tournament. Doncic is expected to be cleared to play in the tournament in early July after being assessed by Slovenian medical staff.
Doncic exited the NBA Finals dealing with a sprained right knee, left ankle pain and chest bruises that required painkilling injections before he could play. The Mavs star didn’t want to talk about playing in the qualifiers after his team lost the finals to the Boston Celtics.
“I don’t want to talk about what’s next. I have decisions to make. I’m trying to get a little healthier,” Doncic said.
In postseason media interviews, Dallas GM Nico Harrison said he expects Doncic to make the national team this summer.
“That was probably one of his greatest joys,” Harrison said. “As long as he can walk, he’ll probably play for them. That’s my expectation.”
