Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnazzo had a superb individual season at Old Trafford last year despite the team’s poor form.

The 20-year-old has just broken into the Argentina national team and is currently playing for Lionel Scaloni in the Copa América.

There were suggestions he would continue his international career by competing at the Olympics later in the summer, but there were also reports he would return to United after the Copa America.

As confirmed Manchester Evening NewsGarnazzo will not be taking part in the Paris Olympics and United have not received a request to play from the Argentine Football Federation.

According to FIFA regulations, players are not required to participate in two competitions in one summer.

Previous reports said United were prepared to block Garnazzo from the Olympics, but are understood to be unable to make a decision as they have yet to receive a call-up to the national team.

The winger can now look forward to a well-deserved rest after a tough season at the Copa America and United.

Garanzo, along with Diogo Dalot, was the only player in Erik ten Hag’s side to avoid injury, and has featured in 50 of the 52 games this season.

The academy graduate started 39 consecutive games last season, playing on either flank for Ten Hag, who now has full confidence in the bright talent.

Garnazo’s Argentina are favourites to win the Copa America and the youngster made his debut in the competition on Sunday.

United’s players were not in top form but played for more than an hour in the 2-0 win over Peru, a result that helped Argentina secure maximum points at the group stage and solidify their place as leaders.

Garnazzo will not be involved in United’s pre-season tour of the United States due to the game against Argentina, but could feature in the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10.
