Is there anything better than a classic margarita? This recipe is made with just four ingredients and tastes better than most restaurant margaritas!

A few years ago, I shared my homemade margarita mix, and if you’ve ever tried a store-bought mix, I highly recommend giving it a try (it tastes so much better). Today I’m excited to share the best margarita recipe from scratch.

Margarita Cocktail – A Beautiful Mess

margarita ingredients

  • tequila blanco – Also known as silver tequila.
  • orange liqueur – You can use Cointreau, Grand Marnier or Triple Sec.
  • lime juice – Freshly squeezed lime juice is a must.
  • Agave Syrup – You want natural sweetness.
  • ice – i like this small size square cube.
  • lime slices – Or lime wedges for garnish.
  • course salt – Or homemade margarita salt to rim the glass.

Here are some simple bar tools that will make your homemade margarita experience simpler and faster. i recommend portable citrus squeezer, measuring glass (I use this in almost every cocktail I make) and cocktail shaker.

How to Make the Perfect Margarita

Start by preparing your glassware. I like to salt only half the glass so people can choose to sip with or without salt.

Fill with cocktail shaker Contains tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice and agave. Add a handful of ice cubes and shake for about 15 seconds or until the shaker turns to ice. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, try using a mason jar with a lid.

Make sure you’re satisfied with your drink by taking a quick taste test. You can add more sweetener if you feel it is necessary.

Strain the drink from the shaker and pour into a salted glass. Add a few things ice cubes And a fresh lime garnish to serve.

How to salt a glass

I use agave to stick the salt. That’s because it’s a little richer and contains more salt than lime juice alone. Lime juice also works. When making a salt rim, make sure you only do it on the outer edge to prevent unwanted salt from entering your drink. i want some margarita salt We are prepared for such cases. You can also make your own margarita salt (fun!).

margarita variations

  • Mezcal Margarita – My favorite margarita variation is taking a traditional margarita and swapping the tequila for mezcal to create a smokier, more intense flavor.
  • Skinny Margarita – For a lighter version, skip the orange liqueur and add a little fresh orange juice instead. You can also look for light agave to use.
  • Spicy Margarita – Add a few slices of fresh jalepeno or serrano pepper before shaking. If you are concerned about heat, start small and add more to taste.
  • percussion rim – use tagine seasoning (mixed with salt or on its own) to create custom borders. On this note, you can customize the rim with your choice of herbs, citrus zest, or flavored salt.
  • Garden Margarita – Add fresh edible flowers to create a beautiful garden-inspired margarita.
