Mercedes describes the upgrades for the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas as “a fairly significant set of new clothes” to kick-start development efforts for the final six races of the Formula 1 season.

F1 is currently halfway through the four weeks between race weekends following the Singapore Grand Prix where Mercedes struggled for race pace and finished fourth and sixth with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton . The season ends after six races over eight weeks. This means many teams, including Mercedes, are targeting COTA for major upgrade packages for that race.

“We will try to find ways to alleviate the problems that plague us. [in Singapore]Figuring out how to make the tires perform better on these kinds of hot circuits and we’ll also be doing a lot of work to bring together the final upgrades of the season,” said Technical Director James Allison.

“We have quite a few new sets of clothes for the car coming to Austin so hopefully we can have a decent weekend there. So we have to give it our all and be ready for the last few races of the year.”

Allison hopes the development will allow Mercedes to offer a more competitive car for its drivers after Hamilton’s 350th Grand Prix start in Singapore ended in disappointing fashion as he faded from third on the grid in a challenging race. there is.

“Lewis has had a career like no other driver, and I think it’s especially amazing that he’s done it all with one engine supplier, using Mercedes engines,” Allison said.

“We are nearing the end of our journey with him and almost every weekend is a milestone we will never repeat with Lewis. It’s really unfortunate that this happened on a weekend when the car wasn’t any brighter, and my hope is that we don’t have to go too far beyond the 350-day mark. Maybe we can celebrate the 351st in more style.”
