Meslier’s mistake cost Leeds at Sunderland.

Leeds’ goalkeeper Ilan Meslier held Championship leaders Sunderland to a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light tonight.

Meslier inexplicably allowed Alan Browne’s aimless pass to slip past him in the sixth minute of added time to give the Wearsiders a point that moved them two points clear at the top of the table.

Teenage sensation Chris Rigg put Sunderland ahead at half-time before Joel Piroe equalized 13 minutes later.

Leeds dominated the remainder of the opening period and continued their upward trend after the break, taking the lead with some neat play creating space for Junior Firpo to fire home.

Sunderland appeared to be running out of time but continued to push forward until Meslier made a routine stop. The ball bounced awkwardly past his right arm and into the goal.
