Metavrse, a 3D creation platform for the spatial web, has appointed Julie Smithson as president and CEO.

The company, based in Toronto, Canada, started out as a sort of metaverse shopping mall where people shop virtually for digital or physical items.

Amid the virtual reality craze, husband and wife team Alan Smithson and Julie Smithson joined the company in 2015 and incorporated it in the spring of 2016. They assembled a team and built an engine to run the store on the web. We continued our efforts in 2020. Alan Smithson served as CEO and announced TheMall with hopes of filling the virtual retailer’s 100th floor by 2022.

Now the company explains that it is focused on 3D creation for the spatial web, with a focus on XR, 3D and the metaverse. And the Smithsons are switching roles.

“Our mission is to make the metaverse creation experience as intuitive as possible,” Julie Smithson, CEO of Metavrse, said in a statement. “We are excited to unveil the next chapter of Metavrse. By combining AI and spatial web technologies, we are creating a platform that makes it easy to build immersive virtual worlds and experiences, regardless of the user’s skill level.”

Julie Smithson previously served as COO and co-founder. Currently, the team has delivered more than 200 3D projects to companies including Microsoft, T-Mobile, Samsung, Wipro, JP Morgan, and Mars.
Wrigley, Mastercard, etc. She was recently named one of the “100 Women of Tomorrow 2024.”

Julie Smithson said the mission was to make the metaverse creation experience intuitive.

As part of this change, Metavrse will soon relaunch its flagship platform, making it easier than ever for creators to develop and distribute immersive content within the browser. This change eliminates the need for specialized hardware or software and gives users from all backgrounds the opportunity to shape the future of the spatial Internet.

“As we drive technological innovation, our core focus is empowering creators to build and deliver content.
It is a transformative experience that changes entire processes and industries,” she said. “At Metavrse, we’re excited to unveil new opportunities for creators, educators, and marketers to explore the limitless potential of 3D creation.”
