What is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon’s annual shopping event that has exclusive deals for Prime members. If you’re not a Prime member there still may be a few deals for you, but members get the best of the best deals on this day. If you’re not a member there are ways to sign up, possibly even for free. This year there were deals in just about every category possible, including tech, home, kitchen, toys and more. Your favorite brands love to celebrate this unofficial holiday such as Apple, Roku and more, so we saw plenty of discounts there as well — and some are sticking around, for now.

Do you need to be an Amazon Prime member to shop Prime Day deals?

Yes, Amazon’s Prime Day deals require a Prime subscription if you want to nab any of the Prime-exclusive deals. You don’t have to be a paying subscriber, as long as the event falls within your Prime trial period. That means you can start your monthlong trial just before the event and get in on the savings for free. For more info on that, check out our guide to getting Amazon Prime perks without paying for a subscription.

How does Prime Day work?

The idea behind Prime Day is pretty simple: Subscribers to Amazon’s Prime service can get exclusive discounts on thousands of products and services across the site during a limited period. The products, while still available to non-Prime members, have extra savings for members, with many prices dropping down to new all-time lows.

When you’re logged in to your Prime account and looking at a product landing page, you’ll see the discounted price if it’s on sale. You don’t need any special coupon codes, nor is there a need to use a specific payment method to get the discounts. If you spend your money wisely each year, you can easily make back your Prime membership cost in savings during the event.

What products go on sale for Prime Day?

Since Amazon sells pretty much everything, its Prime Day bonanza features deals on pretty much everything too. Whether you’re shopping for tech, kitchen gear, outdoor furniture or everyday essentials, Prime Day will always offer something in the way of savings for you.

In past sale events, some of the best savings have been on Amazon devices. This includes Kindle readers, Echo speakers, Fire TVs and more. It’s not just Amazon’s own brands that see steep discounts. There were great deals across a variety of big-name brands this year, including significant savings on items like laptops, TVs and fitness gear, to name a few.

Are Amazon Prime Day deals worth buying?

In short, yes. Some of the deals have hit all-time low prices, and there is no telling how much inventory is available or how long the price cuts will last. It’s possible that some items could see further reductions, but the prices you see on the deals now will likely be the best price, especially if they have dropped to a new low or match the lowest price we’ve seen. As the event has ended, prices may start to tick back up, but we’re keeping an eye on deals and updating this page as deals expire.

How do I find the best deals during Prime Day?

With so many deals coming out left and right in honor of Prime Day, it can get difficult trying to choose which deals to run for and which ones to pass on. A few things to remember when shopping any major event, especially Prime Day, is to keep an open mind, grab what you want before it sells out and don’t be scared to branch out to other retailers. Competitors such as Best Buy and Walmart launch competing sales to keep up with Amazon and some of the great discounts have hung around a little past the event.

And most importantly, continue to keep tabs on us. We have many different hubs for different types of deals. We have updated all of these hubs regularly and are continuing to do so, saving you the time and effort of digging through thousands of deals. Some of our hubs include the best Prime Day deals on headphones, TVs, Amazon devices, laptops, and even graphics cards. Plus so much more. And for the budget-savvy shopper, we have hubs for Prime Day deals under $100, under $50, under $25, and even under $10, helping you save some really big coin. Check out all of our Prime Day content so you don’t miss any of the post-event bargains.

When do Prime Day deals end?

Prime Day generally lasts for two days. It usually kicks off at midnight Pacific and ends 48 hours later.

Amazon’s Prime Day and Prime Day-like events haven’t been single-day affairs since 2016, spanning two days for the first time in 2017 and continuing to be 48-hour bonanzas since then. Many of the deals launching at the sale’s opening time remain available throughout the event, supplies permitting, with other, more limited-time Lightning deals launching and expiring within two days. Generally speaking, the deals ended at midnight on July 17 this time around. You will find a few still lingering for a limited time.

Will there be a second Prime Day event in 2024?

As of now, Amazon has announced only one Prime Day sale event for 2024, which took place July 16 and 17. There is no official word yet on whether there will be another event later this year, although we wouldn’t expect to hear about it until nearer the time. Looking at past years, there has been a second Prime Day-style sale in October for the past two years now. It started in 2022 as the Prime Day Early Access sale. In 2023, the trend continued with the Prime Big Deal Days sale, so we anticipate Amazon will once again utilize this spot on the calendar for a sale.
