World number 58 Raducanu has battled surgeries and injuries since making history as the first male or female qualifier to win a Grand Slam singles title by competing at the 2021 US Open Championship.

Radukanu, who lost to Sofia Kenin in the first round of the U.S. Open, has reached the quarterfinals in two of her last three tournaments in 2024.

The BBC reports that Raducanu has been training with his team, coaches Nick Cavaday and Nakamura, at the National Tennis Center in London this week in preparation for the 2025 opener in Auckland.


Raducanu, who turned 22 on Nov. 13, said Nakamura will be traveling to the most states of the year. She hopes their work together will help her stay more healthy and athletic on the court.

“I think he will help me explore how far I can go, like athletics,” Raducanu said. BBC’s Russell Fuller. “I think what I haven’t achieved so far is my biggest strength. I think I can become the best player in tennis, and I’m looking forward to seeing how much I can do.

“My natural athletic ability is something I need to use. I need to hone it, refine it. I think it’s still raw and not nearly fully developed, so he’ll help me explore that.”
