New York Giants manager Brian Daboll announced Tuesday afternoon that players voted to select the following five players to be team captains for the 2024 season.
Quarterback Daniel Jones and left tackle Andrew Thomas will be on offense, defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and linebacker Bobby Okereke will be on defense, and long snapper Casey Critter will be on special teams.
“The players voted for captains today. There’s going to be five,” Daboll told reporters. “Casey Kreiter on special teams. Daniel Jones and Andrew Thomas on offense. Dexter and Bobby on defense. Those guys were voted for by the team.”
Last season, the team voted 10 players to be captain, which was too many. Jones, Thomas, Lawrence and Okereke were in that group.
Daybol delivered the message during a media session at 1:30 p.m. EDT, two and a half hours before the final roster cuts deadline.
So he has not given any official word on who will be on the team, which players will be let go or kept, or when an official announcement will be made regarding the final roster.
The Giants’ starting rotation was left in a state of confusion as they tried to practice with the remaining players on the roster.
An awkward press conference where he doesn’t confirm or deny who’s on the roster, even though you can see it in practice. Based on his answers, it looks like Tommy DeVito, Gunnar Olszewski, Dionte Johnson, Matthew Adams, and Gervarius Owens are on the “original” 53. We’ll see…

Daboll remained tight-lipped as GM Joe Schoen likely is still negotiating a possible trade or waiting for a final ruling from the medical staff on the status of some players.
