New York Giants safety Jonathan Sutherland, Raheem Lane training

The New York Giants have had several workouts this week as they deal with injuries to players at various positions.

That trend looks set to continue Wednesday when the Rams host former Seattle Seahawks safety Jonathan Sutherland in East Rutherford, according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson.

Sutherland signed with the Seahawks as a rookie free agent after the 2023 NFL Draft, but never played in a regular season game for the team. He was released in late July of this year.

Sutherland, who stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 202 pounds, had a solid college career at Penn State, recording 137 tackles, 1.5 sacks, five passes defended and an interception.

NFL Draft Analyst Lance Zierlein Here’s what Sutherland had to say about coming out of PSU:

Sutherland played a hybrid safety/linebacker position at Penn State, with a variety of assignments from slot coverage to run-fit. He put up impressive numbers at his pro day and has been an above-average special teams product throughout his career. He’s been asked to play a versatile role, but the tape doesn’t show him shining in any one area. Sutherland will need to find a positional home (perhaps nickel/dime linebacker) to complement his special teams potential at the next level.

Art Stapleton of USA TODAYFormer Los Angeles Chargers safety Raheem Lane is also reportedly set to train.

Earlier this week, the Giants signed linebackers Shaun Bradley, KJ Cloyd, Trey Kizer and Shaffelle Russell, with Cloyd finally coming to terms.
