New York Giants WR Darius Slayton nominated for cut/trade

New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton returned to the team earlier this week after general manager Joe Schoen added $650,000 in incentives to his contract.

The agreement ends the temporary ‘maintenance’ of volunteer work.

“First of all, I’m glad Darius is back. If you look at the overall message being sent to the locker room, everyone knows that there is a difference between the personal and the professional and how you feel about them do not mix. We all love Darius. Sometimes there can be differences of opinion between families, but like we did, you can find a way to find common ground and move forward,” said Deputy Brandon Brown.

“We’re happy he’s here and we’re excited to keep moving forward with him. He came back like he never left.”

Despite Slayton’s presence and the Giants’ public desire to bring him back, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports They recently listed him as a cut/trade candidate.

Slayton, who voluntarily skipped workouts in an apparent bid for a new contract, has quietly surpassed 700 receiving yards in four of his five NFL seasons. But with the addition of first-round pick Malik Nabers, he’s also expendable. Cutting or trading him would save the Giants anywhere from $3.8 million to $6.4 million.

The Giants wouldn’t offer any additional incentive just to trade Slayton. This is not Dave Gettleman’s operation.

Slayton continues to be underrated at the national level and his ideal role as a WR2 is overlooked. Now, even with Nabers joining Jalin Hyatt and Wan’Dale Robinson, it’s very likely that Slayton will have a spot on the Giants’ roster, and it’s highly unlikely that they will move him.
