NHL’s Corey Perry furious over Connor McDavid suspension

After Connor McDavid was handed a three-game ban for a cross-check on Conor Garland, the Edmonton Oilers forward took offense at the NHL’s player safety department.

In a recent interview, Perry revealed his issues with the treatment of NHL players, claiming the league hasn’t done enough to ‘protect its superstars.’

Perry said: “Why don’t we protect our superstars? Every other league does that. Mahomes, LeBron… They protect their superstars.”

This idea and the decision to ban Garland divided opinion, a point highlighted by other members of the Oilers family.

Oilers Now host Bob Stauffer was clearly shaken by the decision on his show Monday and took to social media to highlight his disdain for the decision.

Stauffer said: “The NFL gets it. The NHL doesn’t get it. The NFL protects its stars. The NHL wants their stars to play through the “cr-“. In the meantime, it benefited from record profits. “You guessed it.”

Stauffer’s second tweet read: “No one can accuse the NHL of protecting its stars. that @EdmontonOilers Connor McDavid currently ranks 197th in draw penalties per 60 with 0.89 (minimum 10 GP).”

The three-game ban for McDavid sparked debate over whether the NHL should impose a more lenient punishment and suspend the Oilers captain for one game.

However, there are differing views on the NHL’s decision to ban McDavid for three games, as Edmonton Journal contributor Terry Jones differs.

He said: “McDavid’s suspension could be a good thing. The overwhelming response from the sports world paints the NHL as a joke. The owner should be angry. firing. Hosts exposure. Protect the stars. There can be positive results. The statistic that No. 97 is 197th in the penalty draw says it all.”
