Nick Chubb (ACL) closes on long-awaited return to Browns

It’s fair to say the Browns have been missing Nick Chubb for the past year after the running back tore his ACL last season, but the four-time Pro Bowler is getting closer to making his long-awaited return to the field.

Nick Chubb returns to training

Nick Chubb finally returned to practice this week after being out of action since Week 2 of the 2023 season when he tore his ACL against the Steelers.

Although he is not yet eligible to return to play, Chubb has already begun training with the team and his return is clearly just a few weeks away.

It can’t be understated how much the Browns have missed Chubb over the past year, and Cleveland’s slow offensive start is evidence after the first four weeks.

The Browns are 1-3 this season after losses to the Cowboys, Raiders and Giants, who are off to a disappointing start in 2024 with just seven touchdowns thrown. Cleveland’s only win in the league so far has been the biggest disappointment for the Jaguars so far this year.

Chubb’s absence left Jerome Ford in the RB1 role for Cleveland, and although he wasn’t Chubb, he still saw consistent minutes for the Browns for a year and a half.

The 156th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft had 814 rushing yards for four touchdowns last season, but already in a starting role this year, he has 203 yards and one touchdown in four games.

Ford’s numbers are absolutely dwarfed by Chubb’s statistics. The four-time Pro Bowler averaged 1,268 rushing yards per season over six years in the league before suffering an injury in 2023.

Chubb also had 48 touchdowns prior to last season, something the Browns largely missed while the 28-year-old was on the sideline.
