After an exciting Premier League campaign, we analysed the top players of the week. Here’s how they looked.
⚽ Goalkeeper: Andre Onana (Manchester United)
Onana produced a fantastic double save, easily surpassing David Raya’s Champions League record. Under pressure from Manchester United, Onana saved a game that should have been won without a doubt. It was a top-class performance from the goalkeeper.
Defender
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool):
Alexander-Arnold was outstanding against a lively Bournemouth side. He held his ground defensively but continued to cause chaos, even registering a great assist. Bournemouth needed several players to stop him.
Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa):
Consa showed his versatility once again, changing positions as the game progressed. His consistent form has made him one of England’s best defenders. He also provided Villa with the decisive goal in the game.
Gabriel (Arsenal):
Gabriel continues to be a dominant presence at set pieces, with opponents finding it increasingly difficult to mark him, even when double-teamed. Defensively, he was strong throughout the game, but Arsenal failed to win.
Riccardo Calafiori (Arsenal):
Despite a tough start, Calafiori adapted to the game and scored a stunning goal. His tactical awareness and defensive ability, especially when his team was reduced to 10 men, were key.
Midfield
Sam Mosey (Ipswich):
After being criticised in recent weeks, Morsy has upped his game this time around. He has been more active across the pitch, particularly in defensive duties, and has had a significant impact against Ipswich.
Tyler Dibling (Southampton):
At just 18, Dibling’s performances have been outstanding. He is comfortable in a variety of midfield roles and exudes confidence. He capped off his performance with his first goal and it is clear that his future is bright.
James Maddison (Tottenham):
Maddison stepped up this week and delivered the performance Tottenham fans have been waiting for. Even after Brentford went ahead, Maddison showed his ability to control the game, create chances and influence key moments.
transmission
Luis Diaz (Liverpool):
Diaz was the standout player against Bournemouth. His two goals and his all-round play showed he could be a regular for Liverpool if Salah leaves. Showed great energy and skill.
Nicholas Jackson (Chelsea):
Jackson had an impressive outing, scoring twice and providing an assist before being substituted after 60 minutes. His sharpness in front of goal means he could become Chelsea’s first-choice striker if he can maintain that.
Iliman N’Diaye (Everton):
Despite Everton’s struggles, N’Diaye continues to shine. His off-the-ball effort and creativity have added much-needed quality to Everton’s attack. Keeping him fit will be crucial to their survival hopes.
🎯 Manager of the week: Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
Arteta may have been disappointed with the result, but tactically he made the right call. His team kept Erling Haaland relatively quiet, and even after falling behind, Arsenal responded well to go ahead 2-1. His game management looked perfect until extra time.
