Additional assistance was underway Sunday for two wildfires in the Lower Yakima Valley that prompted evacuation notices on Saturday.

The Beam Road fire east of Zillah and north of Sunnyside is estimated at 10,000 acres, according to Yakima County Fire District 5.

The Camas Road fire near Wapato was 100 acres. Fire officials said one home and one vehicle were lost.

They are burning in the grass and bushes. The causes of both fires are under investigation, according to a news release from the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

National mobilization was approved on Saturday night. The state ordered four strike teams for the Beam Road fire and two strike teams for the Camas Road fire, the news release said. The fire is managed by a Type 3 Incident Management Team.

Several firefighters and aircraft from the state Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene Saturday.

A Level 2 “Prepare” evacuation notice has been issued for the Rattlesnake Ridge area outside Zillah, according to Yakima Valley Emergency Management. This means people should be prepared to leave their families and pets and transport emergency supplies and belongings to their vehicles.

Evacuation notices have been lifted for a fire on North Camas Road in the Wapato area.

Saturday’s fire was sparked by strong winds, with gusts reaching 35 miles per hour. High temperatures in Sunnyside on Sunday are expected to be near 69 degrees and calm winds, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
