Gareth Southgate resigned as England manager yesterday, which, as you all know, was a long time coming and should have happened years ago.
But this is not Southgate’s opinion piece. Anyway, it’s time to watch the future prospects.
So who’s next? The FA has a temporary option for that role. I’ve heard the name (as reported by me) Substack site) The likes of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Lee Carsley are seen as possible contenders for the role, with Carsley also being considered for the role on a permanent basis.
England will consider all nationalities and will hold talks with Mauricio Pochettino, with Graham Potter seen as one of the top candidates by sources, while Eddie Howe will also be contacted.
But as for Thomas Tuchel, sources say that it is unlikely at the moment, which really annoys me. I don’t think you can ever say no to something like this, and I’ve heard that Tuchel is going to take on the role. But sources say he is an unlikely candidate at the moment.
Sources say Carsley is likely to get it. Incidentally, Frank Lampard has been in talks with the FA recently, but it is understood that it is about taking over if the U21 job becomes vacant. And if Carsley steps in, Lampard could take the job. Lampard also wants a senior team job and is applying, but that is unlikely to happen at the moment.
The most likely candidates at present are Porter and Carsley, with Pochettino and Howe also being possibilities.
We also expect that other names will be reviewed and discussed.
To be honest, what are they doing? If they want a balanced manager who is tactically good, motivated and mentally strong, Tuchel is the one!! He is a winner, we need a winner.
