Oscar Piastri happy with podium return in Singapore, helps McLaren strengthen constructors’ lead

Piastri briefly held second before returning to the track behind Norris, Verstappen, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, but he made the most of his fresh tyres to beat the Silver Arrows and finish the 62-lap race on the podium.

Asked about his night behind the wheel, Piastri initially joked: “It was warm! It was a good race, a good recovery from qualifying yesterday. Yesterday wasn’t my best afternoon, but to be back on the podium is a great result.

“We felt we had a really fast car underneath us and a good strategy to get past Mercedes. A big shout out to the team. The car was great this weekend and some great points for the whole team.”

As teammate Norris cruised to a crushing victory, Piastri was asked if there was a particularly standout moment of difficulty or close call he experienced throughout the race.
