Now that I’m settled into my new home, I’ve finally started painting again. For years, I’ve painted on small pieces of paper on my kitchen table. I never felt like I had enough space to add an easel and a larger canvas. But now that I have a space to paint in my home office, I’ve been painting nonstop for the past few months, nights, weekends, and winter vacations. I’ve painted, painted, painted.

I get a lot of joy from drawing people I love, imaginary characters and scenes, and self-portraits. I try to capture the spirit of the person while trying to get a good look at them. That’s really the hardest part. Some of these drawings are very satisfying, others are hidden in the closet because I rarely look at them, but every time I draw a new one, I learn something new and I love the process. so many.

This is a “mixed media” piece. I used wire for the curls. Pun intended 😉

My parents.

My daughter Aida also participated. We listened to stand-up comedy and drew pictures! It was a great bonding activity for me and my daughter.

So far I’ve mostly used acrylics, but I’m thinking of trying oils soon…

And this Aida work might just be my favorite…

I hope you’ve all enjoyed your winter so far!
