Ottawa – At 9:08 a.m. today, two Greenpeace Canada activists were arrested at Stornoway, the Ottawa residence of opposition leader Pierre Poilievre. The protesters, who were arrested on suspicion of mischief and threats, did not resist police. The activists were part of a large group that installed a replica oil pump jack on a driveway in Stornoway, surrounded by burned forests and flames, and painted it with charcoal made from trees burned in the 2021 wildfire that devastated the town of Lytton, British Columbia, to symbolize the cost. Climate inaction. Activists sent a powerful message: Poilievre: Protecting the polluter and betraying the people..

“Poilievre’s silence today is proof that his true intention is to protect polluters while betraying the people. We gave him the opportunity to explain how he would protect Canadians from unnatural climate disasters, but apparently he did not take the health and safety of his communities seriously enough. While I am under arrest, Poilievre plans to give a free pass to large polluting companies like oil and gas, ensuring greater profits for the wealthiest at the expense of the future of Canadians. “Canadians deserve leaders who protect people and the climate, not polluters.” said Keith Stewart, senior energy strategist at Greenpeace Canada and one of the arrested activists.
