Oscar Piastri believes McLaren could be at the “start of something special” and is keen to cash in on their 2025 championship challenge.

McLaren edged Ferrari last season by winning the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship for the first time in 25 years. Lando Norris finished second to Max Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship as the team grew stronger as the year progressed, and Piastri believes he will have a chance to fight for the Drivers’ title over the next 12 months.

“I hope so,” Piastri told SiriusXM. “I think [2024] Personally, I have improved a lot. It was also a huge step forward for the team.

“I know there’s still a long way to go and areas to improve, but I feel like I’ve made a lot of great progress this year and I’m excited to try to capitalize on opportunities out there. -Save the season and go again next year. Because I feel like this could be the start of something special. So I’m going to make sure I’m ready for the challenge.”

Piastri will be looking to take another step forward in his development ahead of the start of the new campaign, but admitted he did not expect to contribute to the Constructors’ Championship in his second season in Formula 1.

“This success was clearly the result of a year of hard work. This journey that we’ve actually transitioned into over a longer period of time has been the result of two years of hard work, and I’m really excited to be a part of it. “He said.

“I never dreamed that at this stage of my life and this stage of my career I would be part of a World Championship winning team. So we’re all very proud of what we’ve been able to achieve.”
