The Detroit Pistons announced today that Monty Williams will not return as the team’s head coach next season. The decision was made following a thorough review and analysis of the team’s performance during the 2023-24 campaign.
“This is a difficult decision to make,” Pistons owner Tom Gores said. “We are grateful to Monty for his hard work and dedication.” “Coaching has many dynamic challenges that present themselves during the season, and Monty has always handled them gracefully. However, after carefully reviewing our performance and assessing where we are as an organization, we will plan a new direction moving forward.”
“I have great respect for Monty as a coach and as a person and I am confident he will be successful in his future endeavors,” Gores added. “We sincerely wish him and his family the best of luck.”
The process of finding a new coach begins immediately.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to bringing a championship-caliber team to Detroit,” Gores said. “We will act diligently and quickly in our search for a new head coach to lead our exciting young core of players and continue our vision of building a best-in-class front office that will help us achieve sustainable success.”
