Brisbane, QLD, 12 November 2024 | jackson mansell

Jason Kubler is back on the court for the first time in 10 months as the Australian Pro Tour heads to Brisbane this week.

The Queenslander has not played in a competitive match since the 2024 Australian Open, losing his opening match to Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galan in five sets.

The Australian Open 2023 doubles champion and current world number 821 will face Japan’s Yuki Mochizuki in the opening match. He is seeking his first win since the Ilkley Challenger in June 2023.

Cairns International 1 finalist Blake Ellis enters the event as the top seed, while 15-year-old Cruz Hewitt received a wildcard.

Meanwhile, second seed Matthew Dellavedova will be looking to add a second title to his 2024 cabinet. The 24-year-old gained momentum going into the QTC Tennis International in Brisbane after winning the M15 tournament in Pontevedra last month.

Talia Gibson was the highest placed athlete in the women’s event in Brisbane. Gibson, ranked 125th in the world, a career high, is aiming to build on his recent pro tour form.

The 20-year-old has gone from strength to strength since winning the inaugural Perth International W75 event in September to extend her winning streak to 17 matches and reaching the semi-finals of her last five tournaments, taking home three titles.

Sydney Pro Tour finalist Taylah Preston is aiming to go one step further in Brisbane, where she enters as the second seed after losing to rising star Emerson Jones in the Sydney final.

Preston plays doubles with Lizette Cabrera. Seeded third, they are in the same half as Destanee Aiava and Maddison Inglis, whom Preston and Cabrera recently won in the Sydney final.

The main draw for the Brisbane QTC International begins today and ends on Sunday 17 November.
