We are Harry Potter fans and love making recipes from the stories for our kids. This pumpkin pie is delicious and super easy to make at home. Pumpkin pie is similar to pumpkin hand pies or pop tarts. They will love it served warm with a cold butterbeer or a glass of pumpkin juice.

In the Harry Potter story, students can ride the Hogwarts Express and buy pumpkin pie from the snack cart. This recipe is inspired by the snack they tried at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. Make these delicious little hand pies for your next Harry Potter movie night.

Pumpkin Pie – A Beautiful Mess

ingredient

  • Pie Crust – Choose a roll-up refrigerated pie crust, not the kind that comes in a pie pan. Or, you can make your own pie crust at home.
  • Pumpkin puree – It’s okay to can it (use pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling).
  • honey – Or you can add your favorite sweetener.
  • vanilla – Choose high quality vanilla extract.
  • cinnamon – Cinnamon powder.
  • cloves – Chopped cloves.
  • nutmeg – Nutmeg powder.
  • salt – A pinch of high-quality salt (I like to use fine sea salt).
  • egg – To make egg wash, you will need 1 egg.
  • milk – For the egg water.
  • brown sugar – For sprinkling on top (optional)

Manufacturing method

First, preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

Roll out the dough on a nonstick surface or parchment paper. Cut the dough into circles. You can use: Biscuit cutterCut out a circle using the opening of a small bowl or large glass.

Place a spoonful or two of filling in the center of each circle. Fold the circle over to seal the filling. Wet the edges of the dough with water to help seal it well.

Use a fork to prick the outer edges of the dough.

Make an egg wash by mixing the eggs and milk. Brush each piece of dough with a clean brush.

Bake in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until golden brown.

Let cool for 5 minutes before serving warm. Enjoy!

Tips for making

  • Salty version – If you want a savory pumpkin pie, use less pie filling, add a slice of Brie, cream cheese, or mascarpone cheese. I haven’t tried this, so if you have, let me know what you think!
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice – If you have pumpkin spice, you can substitute the three individual spices for pumpkin spice. Adding ginger and allspice is very similar.
  • garnish – I decorated my pie with little stars. You can use lightning or no decoration at all. You can also sprinkle brown sugar, turbinado sugar, or decorative sprinkles on top.
  • Reuse scrap – If you have any leftover pieces of pie crust, roll it out again with a rolling pin to make more dough.
