“This is a team competition and if you really want to support a European team, you have to give them your best. And now there are other players who can help the team win.
“I have had many great and emotional memories playing in the Laver Cup. It was great to be able to do it with my teammates and with Bjorn in his final year as captain.
“I wish the European team the best of luck and will be cheering them on from afar.”
Nadal has a 12-7 record this season and last competed at the Paris Olympics, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the second round.
