Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from next week’s Laver Cup in Berlin, tournament organizers announced on Thursday.

“I’m really disappointed that I won’t be able to compete in the Laver Cup in Berlin next week,” Nadal said in a tweet posted at the event.

“This is a team competition and if you really want to support a European team, you have to give them your best. And now there are other players who can help the team win.

“I have had many great and emotional memories playing in the Laver Cup. It was great to be able to do it with my teammates and with Bjorn in his final year as captain.

“I wish the European team the best of luck and will be cheering them on from afar.”
